Metadata Workshop

If you've been thinking of starting your metadata catalogue, but didn't want to wade through the software on your own, now is your chance. On Friday, February 25th, the Interdisciplinary Spatial Information Systems (ISIS) Center at CSU Fresno, in collaboration with the New Valley Connexions project, is making a computer lab and training available for metadata creation. One session is planned for 9 am on that day; if there is sufficient need, another session will be held at 1 PM in the afternoon.

The December 7 Fresno Regional SIS Coordinating Team meeting in Clovis featured a New Valley Connexions workshop which presented the statewide metadata tool developed by CERES and CGIA; it is available online at no cost and is compliant with Federal metadata standards.

22 computer stations are available; Mary Tsui of Land Systems Group and CGIA, and possibly a few people from CERES, will be the trainers. The trainers will help you work through the creation of your own agency/company catalogue and the entry of metadata about your files.

To enhance the experience, bring along the details of at least one file used by your agency for use in learning to use the metadata software. It does not matter whether your file is tabular, such as an Excel or Access database, or a GIS coverage, or imagery.

At the end of the 2-hour session, you will have created a catalogue and populated the catalogue with at least one file from your agency or company. All the work occurs online. Please let Kathy Moffitt, ISIS Center Director, know by Feb 17 if you plan to attend. Kathy can be reached at kathym@csufresno.edu or (559) 278-4951.
