GIS Day is a worldwide event
with more than 80 countries participating by holding local
events to bring awareness to the
area of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The ISIS Center
proudly sponsors this annual event to showcase the practice
of local GIS users for the community. The primary focus is on real-world
applications and how this important technology is making a
difference in all our lives.
GIS Day is part of the
National Geographic Society's new initiative, Geography Action,
which is a year-long initiative encompassing key educational
achievements such as GIS Day and Geography Awareness Week.
There will be many worldwide activities supporting geography
action, with their goal being to engage people in learning about
geographic information systems.
This
year ISIS will have a map gallery on display at the Henry Madden
Library from 10 AM to 1 PM. The Henry Madden Library is
located on the campus of California State University,
Fresno.
It is
a free event that is open to the public.
