by holding local events to bring awareness to the area of
Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This year the San
Joaquin Valley Regional GIS Council is holding a GIS Day Event
in Merced from 9am - 3pm. Professional GIS users will give
presentations that demonstrate real world applications and also
discuss the various GIS organizations around the San Joaquin
Valley. See the
agenda for more specific event times.
GIS Day is part of the
National Geographic Society's new initiative, Geography Action,
which is a year-long initiative encompassing key educational
achievements such as GIS Day and Geography Awareness Week.
There will be many worldwide activities supporting geography
action, with their goal being to engage people in learning about
geographic information systems.
If you want to find out
more about this technology then you won't want to miss this
