Description of Services 


Geospatial Technology Training

The ISIS Center can provide you with GIS Training from introduction to GIS to advanced topics such as customizing your GIS, image processing, and integrating GPS/GIS. Check our current training schedule, or contact us to discuss custom training options.

Technical Consulting

If you are just getting started in or don't have in-house expertise to implement GIS, the ISIS Center may be able to help you find the right solution for your enterprise, including technology, training, and applications.

Spatial Analysis

Spatial data becomes powerful information when put under the scope of spatial analysis. Analysis can determine the lowest cost route for a new road or the best place to locate a new business given numerous criteria. Or you might want to know which day care centers have the most transportation options nearby. The possibilities are endless.

Remote Sensing Analysis

A wide variety of remote sensing products are available from satellite imagery to aerial photos and laser and radar scans. The ISIS Center staff has capabilities to use these data to map physical features, correct spatial errors in other map layers (ie roads), or georeference and orthorectify images to match other digital map layers. ISIS can also perform analysis such as image classification of natural vegetation or ag crops over large areas and detection of changes in land use over time. Remotely sensed imagery can also be used to aid in visualizing landscapes.

Spatial Modelling and Simulation

Using spatial statistics, ISIS can model distributions of multiple variables and even predict values for a given coordinate. Or given knowledge of a system, simulations can be created to visualize a landscape's change over time. What will land use look like in 20 years given current population growth and planning practices? How will wildlife populations fare given alternate land management practices? These types of questions can be addressed with simulations.

Mapping & Visualization

Any kind of spatial data (residential housing, businesses, pollution sources, zip codes, census tracts, population demographics, environmental conditions, wildlife observations) can be visually displayed on maps - for reports, wall posters or internet-ready images. A map might be a traditional two dimensional bird's-eye view of an area or a 3-dimensional projection of topography overlayed with a satellite photo.

Web-Based Applications

Using ESRI's ArcIMS (Internet Map Server), ISIS Center staff can create internet or intranet distributed applications for interactive mapping. Spatial data can be restricted to specific user groups, or open to anyone with internet access.

Geocoding

Geocoding is the referencing of places or events to geographical coordinates on the ground. This is often the first step in making location data (such as street addresses) usable before any mapping, spatial overlays or analysis can be conducted.

Software Application Development

The ISIS Center can customize GIS application software to meet your needs. Do you have mapping or analysis tasks that you do over and over again? Many spatial processes can be automated in a GIS to minimize man-hours in the future or process large amounts of data.

Decision Support Sytems

Decision making in fields such as urban planning and natural resource management often require knowledge from multiple disciplines and complex arrays of information from several organizations. Decision Support Systems can be developed to facilitate decision-making processes by incorporating land use, stakeholder input, habitat suitability, environmental regulation, ownership considerations, and other factors in a single application.

Routing and Network Analysis

The ISIS Center can use GIS to help you design efficient routes for distribution of products and services.

Field Study

The ISIS center can help your organization collect field data using mobile technology such as GPS (global positioning systems) and palmtop computers.
